The Doctoral Program “Language and Knowledge Engineering” (KLE) is a collaboration of several research groups at the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universität Darmstadt:  Algorithmics,  Knowledge Engineering,  Knowledge Mining and Assessment,  Stastical Semantics, and Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing.It is affiliated with the PhD program  Knowledge Discovery in Scientific Literature.

The doctoral program covers research at the frontiers of Graph-based Algorithms, Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics, applied to Text Mining and Language Technologies. The groups constituting LKE bring together around 20 doctoral students, 6 senior researchers and 4 professors, all specializing in different aspects of the above described research area.

The doctoral program currently offers regular research meetings:

• reading groups, where emerging research trends and recent outstanding research papers are discussed by LKE members;
• researchers’ talks, where junior and senior researchers can present their current research work and ideas, gather feedback from colleagues with different research backgrounds, and importantly, PhD students can practice presentation skills;
• advanced tutorials on research topics of collective interest;
• guest lectures by renowned invited researchers and professors from German and International research institutes.

LKE activities are currently organized by  Prof. Dr Iryna Gurevych (UKP Lab) and are coordinated by  Emily Jamison (UKP Lab).
